Prepper Thoughts after the #TropicalStorm Barry Mobilization.

Image
( From Cap Black Social Media ): Thoughts after the #TropicalStorm Barry Mobilization. #Collectiveconsciousness radiated terse expectations regarding what this former Category One hurricane and tropical storm would do when it arrived in New Orleans. Of all words spoken and typed about this event, one I didn't see or hear was, #prepper. It often conjures connotations of militarists, cultists and survivalists, among other ominous " ists " in skeptical minds. Sweeping store closures and mass buying underscored the very real need of folks to have  food, water and other supplies independent of what government and big nonprofits offer in time consuming times of need. The word prepper may make folks uneasy. What makes me even more uneasy is the thought of people hungry, thirsty and frantic during real or imagined crisis because they didn't or couldn't stock supplies to sustain themselves until conditions return to normal. We who care must also prepare.

If Only Evil were Easy to See

Image
( From My Social Media ): If Only Evil were Easy to See The image of Mr. Barlow, my favorite vampire, popped in my head earlier today while making rounds. I was reflecting on how easy #crimeprevention and unmasking false friends would be if subjects looked like this character. Alas fellow #safetysapiens, that's far from the case. While cues and pre incident indicators offer aware observers invaluable heads up, deception can make a vampire intent upon feasting on our energy and resources appear to be anything but what he or she really is- an opponent operating right under our noses. If only Evil were easy to see... it can be easy to see if we pay close attention. Just like you'd run away at warp speed if Mr. Barlow materialized before you, figuratively run away from negative people after their friendly mask slips off. You don't have to wait for their fangs to sink in to see them for who they really are #CapBlackSELFDeveloper #selfdevelopment #selflove  #dis

Looking. Assessing. Creating.

Image
We choose the conditions we accept,  knowingly, unwittingly and in ways great and small. Let's accept good ones by consciously, collectively creating them. Tragic Example: When the collective consciousness of my old neighborhood shifted from the quiet, dignified productivity of my grandparents, parents and even my generation to insurgent loud, larcenous, lethal counterproductivity, I saw firsthand what happens when negative conditions become the norm. The Solution?: Keep looking. Keep assessing. Keep creating safety and civility and opportunity daily and unapologetically displace negativity. #capblacksafetycreator #securityphilosopher #safetyandsupportmanager #selfdevelopment #selfrealization #selfactualization #orator #writer

Be a Shepherd in Your Pasture

Image
( From UrbanSafetyist on Facebook ): On Sunday, May 19th, 2019, either a nervous breakdown or the Holy Spirit-I'll take the latter interpretation ( lol )-mandated that I put this " Shepherds of the City " outreach idea into action. Those in the know, know that I'm a long-term one man street patrol doing quiet crime prevention and homeless outreach on the streets, not from office suites. Sometimes I've had people join me but usually I'm a solo act. Shepherds of the City has been echoing louder and louder in my mind for some time but I fought heeding its call until nearly a week ago when acceptance beat avoidance. An overwhelming conviction to do so took over and I took action. Did I mention this Shepherds of the City vision called for me to walk with a staff in hand reminiscent of Charlton Heston's portrayal of Moses in the Ten Commandments movie? I'm old school and very low key, despite improbable beliefs like fictional superheroes can serve

Cap Black, Safety Creator among Many.

Image
The latest spate of organized teen violence by a group I call the " Sucker Punch Gang, " in the Marigny and St. Roch communities, underscores the urgency of my safety creation theory.  As criminals become more " bold and brazen " to quote New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, citizens must be more mobilized and motivated. Caught between perpetual police staffing shortages, political dismisal of mass victimization and oppressive outside oversight of local law enforcement, citizens can either become silenced slaves-which elites prefer-or vocal victors in the battle to save our homes, events and public spaces from politically enabled career criminals. If we did little more than safety walks, my basic service, escorting ourselves to vehicles and other destinations, that act alone displaces nearby negativity in the vicinity. Groups like the Sucker Punch Gang revel in catching citizens alone and off guard. Safety walks are one way

They target pedestrians and cyclists in the St. Roch and Marigny neighborhoods. Been playing cat and mouse with them for the last three weeks. #CapBlackUrbanSafetyist
